When I was young, I bought a small ceramic bud vase in Kasama as a birthday gift for someone. I liked it so much, however, that I ended up keeping it for myself. Its rugged, highly asymmetrical form made it impossible to decide which side should face forward, and I spent a long time turning it around, looking at it from every angle. I could not bring myself to choose a single “front.” Then an idea came to me: I placed two small mirrors, custom-cut by a glassmaker, behind it.

Beautiful three-dimensional objects, much like cherished memories, deserve to be seen from every direction. This shelf was created with that thought in mind. We invite you to display the things you might call the treasures of your life. And if there is nothing in particular you wish to place on it, perhaps it can simply stand as a work of art, reflecting you.

Ultimately, the true focal point of this piece should be the collection you choose to display. Everything surrounding it is designed to recede quietly into the background—and so, quite literally, it was made black.
