Kakiemon / Arita Ware Kakiemon Kiln
In the 1640s, the first-generation Kakiemon established Akae (red overglaze enamel) in Arita City, Saga Prefecture, enhancing the harmony with the beauty of white porcelain. This style, known as the Kakiemon style, was firmly established in the 1670s. The artistic consciousness behind this style has bee n continuously passed down for over 380 years through 15 generations, up to the present day. The Kakiemon style primarily features themes such as Yamato-e (traditional Japanese painting) style flower and bird motifs, painted in warm colors.
The distinctive characteristics of this style include an asymmetrical composition with rich milky-white spaces. The overglaze enamels used in the decoration encompass colors such as red, yellow, green, as well as blue, purple, and gold.
